Blind Bolts
Blind bolts, also known as blind rivet bolts, are a type of fastener used to join two materials together where there is limited or no access to the back of the joint. They are commonly used in the aerospace, construction, and automotive industries.
The blind bolt consists of a threaded bolt, a sleeve, and a mandrel. The sleeve is inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the material and the bolt is threaded through the sleeve. As the bolt is tightened, the mandrel is pulled through the sleeve, causing it to expand and grip onto the material. The mandrel is then removed, leaving a threaded bolt securely fastened in the material.
Some of the advantages of using blind bolts include:
Can be used in materials of varying thicknesses
Can be installed from one side of the joint
Provide a strong and secure fastening
Are available in a variety of materials, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
Can be used in both static and dynamic load applications
When using blind bolts, it is important to choose the correct size and type of bolt for the material being joined and the load requirements. It is also important to ensure that the hole is drilled to the correct size and depth for the specific blind bolt being used. Proper installation is critical to ensuring a strong and secure fastening.
